Greenstone Energy is not a startup built by software developers who discovered oil and gas. We are petroleum engineers who spent over a decade delivering geosteering and drilling services at the wellsite — and built the tools we needed because none existed.
That history shapes everything: our product decisions, our honesty about what's proven versus in development, and our insistence on running shadow pilots before asking anyone to change their workflow.
From field engineers
to a global platform
A decade of real upstream work — contracts signed, software built under pressure, ISO certifications earned — before we launched a single product page.
The Vision
Three petroleum engineers — each with 5+ years in petrophysics, directional drilling, and reservoir engineering — identified a gap: modern geosteering technology was inaccessible to many upstream operators across emerging markets. They set out to change that.
First Company Founded
Formally established as an engineering consultancy. Secured partnerships with Chinook Consulting (geosteering services) and became regional representatives for ROGII's StarSteer platform. Began delivering real-time geosteering bundled into directional drilling services.
€2.12M First Major Contract
Signed as subcontractor to a major national drilling company for geosteering and directional drilling services. Grew the team to 20+ engineers and operations staff. Established a Remote Operation Centre (ROC) — at the time a unique capability in the region.
€12M Extension — Then the Pivot
Secured a €12M contract extension with the same client. When our third-party geosteering software was abruptly withdrawn from the market, we refused to walk away from our clients. Instead, we contracted with a leading technical university faculty and built our own geosteering platform in-house.
Team Grows
Kiarash Angoshtari joined as a junior engineer fresh from petroleum university. ISO-9001 and ISO-10004 certifications achieved, formalising the quality management systems built over four years of field delivery.
R&D Partnership with IOOC
After four years of negotiation, signed a research consultancy contract with IOOC — a major offshore oil operator — to develop and deliver a production-grade geosteering platform. The contract validated our SaaS approach: license-based, updateable, and independent of legacy tools.
GeoMaster Takes Shape
Kiarash Angoshtari advanced to Product Manager. The platform was redesigned end-to-end as a cloud-native, browser-based system — real-time WITSML/ETP streaming, collaborative workspaces, AI field intelligence. GeoMaster as a product began to take its final form.
Platform Delivered
Full software delivery accepted by IOOC, meeting all functional requirements. A second contract followed immediately — an integrated wellsite data platform covering automated drilling modes, early kick detection, gas analysis, wellbore stability, and bit selection.
